This coastal retreat in Matapouri, Northland, offers a fresh take on the classic Kiwi bach. Just 200 metres from the beach, the home was renovated in 2024 and 2025 to blend the charm of a family holiday spot with a refined and modern feel.

Designed to host up to 15 people, the layout encourages shared living while still allowing for quiet moments. At its core is the work of Stu and Melissa Bowman of Apartmento, whose decades of experience show through in the custom furnishings, thoughtful finishes, and relaxed yet polished style. Their design stays true to the bach’s roots while adapting it for modern comfort.

Two large decks extend the living areas outdoors, perfect for summer evenings, shared meals, and lazy afternoons.

This project honors both tradition and place, keeping the spirit of a family getaway alive while embracing new ways of living together with ease and creativity.
